Alycia Burton – A Lifelong Passion for Horses

From the moment I first touched a horse as a child, I knew my life would be shaped by these incredible animals. Growing up in New Zealand, horses were more than just a pastime — they were a way of life. My earliest memories involve riding ponies, caring for horses, and learning the value of patience, trust, and connection that only comes from working with these magnificent creatures.

Discovering a Calling

As I grew older, my love for horses turned into a calling. I was drawn to working with horses that others found difficult or challenging. The ones that were misunderstood, nervous, or even aggressive became my greatest teachers. I learned to listen to them, understand their behavior, and build trust through consistency, care, and empathy.

From Young Rider to Free Riding Performer

My childhood passion became a lifelong journey that led me to the world of Free Riding. Riding without saddle or bridle over extreme heights with my palomino pinto, Goldrush, is the culmination of years of dedication, training, and connection. Every leap, every performance, is a testament to the bond I’ve cultivated with horses throughout my life.

Teaching and Mentoring Through Horses

My passion for horses also fuels my work with youth mentoring. I use the lessons I’ve learned from horses — patience, trust, and resilience — to help young people heal from past trauma, discover their strengths, and gain confidence. Horses have a unique ability to teach life skills, and it’s a privilege to share that experience with the next generation.

Continuing the Journey

Horses have shaped every part of who I am today. They taught me discipline, empathy, and the importance of connection. My mission continues to be about sharing this love for horses and the lessons they bring, inspiring others to find their own passion and purpose through the connection with these incredible animals.
